Day 243 - The Rules for Buying Shoes

I just couldn't let these go by... I finally picked these up this afternoon on a quick trip to Civic after ordering them in a few weeks ago. Now I just need somewhere to wear them (Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it is perfectly okay to buy the shoes before the outfit, or even before the event!)

Day 242 - Sign of Things to Come?

Do you think this might be a sign of things to come? I found Henry going through my wallet this evening... Caught in the act!

Day 241 - I Can See You!

Henry loves this book that was a 1st birthday present from Peta's family. He often reads it while he is getting nappied after his bath of an evening, mainly because the window in it keeps him entertained and occupied! I always get a big laugh when I look through it at him.

Day 240 - Are You Still Here?!

This is one of Henry's favourite games and since he is quite adept at opening and closing the sliding door, he loves it even more. I was quick enough to get this photo today as he quickly hid himself from view.

Day 239 - Our New Dining Suite

I have just a few things to say... 1. What I have always wanted and 2. I love it!

Day 238 - Book Week Parade

I took so many photos of the great costumes today at our Book Week parade, but I have chosen to use this one, as it doesn't identify anyone, and secondly it was a great costume (I don't actually know if Sponge Bob is a book character - I thought he was on tv, but anyhow...). We had many Harry Potters, Mrs Strong, a few Sponge Bobs, a Dracula, the kid from Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Pippi Longstocking, Willy Wonka (one of my personal favourites) and many other great characters. A conversation with one year six boy really made me laugh though... When I asked him who he was dressed as, he replied that he had come as Matty Johns. I just had to ask what book he was from. "The Centenary of League!" he said in a voice that meant 'of course!'

Day 237 - Laksa

Laksa was exactly what I felt like tonight and I have to say that this hit the spot. I have been trying to cook a few different things this week, as it is always something I love doing, but really need to be organised for, with ingredients and time. I am so over going to the supermarket everyday after work and trying to get back into the good planning habits that I used to have!

Day 236 - Jenna as Charlene

According to the Allen and Unwin website;

In a big, big city,
in a tiny, tiny apartment,
lived a tall, tall man
and twelve babies.
All the boys were called Alistair.
All the girls were called Charlene.
One day the door slams shut ... with the Charlenes on one side and the Alistairs on the other. What will the tall man do?
And so, here is Jenna as a Charlene! Guest photographer today is Jenna's Mum Sue, who took a much better photo than I did, post hair and makeup :)

Day 235 - Book Week Library Visit

Here's a picture of 1M's Indonesian decorated horses in the town library... right next to Sarah's gorgeous Thailand artworks. The book week theme this year is One World Many Stories and so displays were from around the world. Stage 1 visited the library today to see the displays and listen to some of the various stories that were up for nominations this year. I was interested to hear the story of The Tall Man and the Twelve Babies, as Jenna is going dressed as Charlene in her book week parade tomorrow :)

Day 234 - Mystery Day

Seems that this was a bit of a mystery day because looking back it seems that i did not take a photo! Oops! Please excuse this stand in :)

Day 233 - More Pantry Planning

Well we took to Bunnings this afternoon to organise and order all of our shelving requirements for the pantry, which I aim to have finished (paint and all) by the end of the first week of the holidays. Henry enjoyed bashing a few calculations into the calculator at the order desk :)

Day 232 - Un-put-down-able

I started reading Ahn Do's The Happiest Refuge last night and for the first time in ages, I almost finished a book in one sitting! I did have to finish it today though, so I could get some sleep last night. I loved it. It was so readable and funny, but I did have tears in my eyes for a lot of it, particularly the description of Ahn's family's horrific boat ride out of Vietnam. After a broken down engine and two pirate attacks, during one of which, Ahn's baby brother was dangled overboard, they were finally rescued by a German boat.  When Ahn describes his father getting on board the German boat, he says;

... by the time he stepped off the rope ladder his dry sunburnt face had cracked open into a whopping great smile as he tasted his own salty tears of relief. He'd delivered 39 lives to safety.

What amazing strength some people have.

Day 231 - Yoghurt isn't Finger Food!

Well I really let him go for it this afternoon with the idea of perhaps making as much mess as possible and mixing desert with vegetables :P There ended up being two hands as well as two spoons in the yoghurt and I think some actually got eaten too! This is why Henry rarely has his bath before dinner...

Day 230 - Long Lost Photo!

This photo sat on my phone for ages because my mac and windows phone do not get on very well! Messaged to Dale's iPhone and bumped to my iPad, before going onto my computer I finally have it. Problem is I don't remember much about it now! I am guessing that Henry was trying to take my phone from me, being into technology and all! (31.12.11)

Day 229 - Mini Art

For no reason other than I thought it made an interesting photo! I bought this crackle stuff on ebay... fun to watch it dry and crackle!

Day 228 - Super Mum :P

This post title, is said with tongue in cheek, although the nurse at the vet's today did say that I was 'amazing' :P Noting that I would never do this if I had to take Rex, I took Henry along for the ride this afternoon for Milly and Daisy's annual check ups and vaccinations. Other than being a bit excitable (Milly) and slightly freaked out (Daisy) both animals were fairly well behaved... other than Milly plonking herself in the baby car seat when we got back to the car! I took the above picture after everyone was in place in the back seat!

Day 227 - My Birthday!

As I said to Dale, I really didn't need a birthday cake after all the cake that we have had recently and so instead Dale brought me home a gorgeous dessert platter from Flute tonight for my birthday :) Now that all of the family birthdays are over for a little while, I think we'll have to eat a bit healthier for the time being... until the next birthday coming up!

Day 226 - High Tea

A beautiful high tea was on the menu this morning for my birthday on the following Monday. We went to Eurolounge in Castle Hill, which is a bit of a favourite of mine. Jenna, Henry, David, Dani, Mum and Dad and I all enjoyed the different teas on offer and all of the miniature food put before us (gorgeous little macaroons, sandwiches, shortbreads and scones). I am sure that Dale was a little disappointed that he was away and missed this one!

Day 225 - Being a Boy

Here's Henry in the gorgeous blue vest that his Great Aunty Julie made him as well as his brand new shoes! You may also notice the dirt that Henry has chosen to accessorise with after he had on these brand new items of clothing for 5 minutes, prior to a play outside :)

Day 224 - Meeting baby Sammie

One thing on our list of things to do over the weekend was to meet up with my dear friend Frances, her hubby Chris and their new hubby Samantha. We haven't seen each other since they moved to Darwin from Melbourne a few years ago and by a lucky chance we were going to be in Sydney on the same weekend. Sadly Henry was too sick to come out for dinner but he did get to meet Fran and co before he went to bed. I really admire Fran and Chris travelling between 3 capital cities over a couple of weeks with a baby. It must be so hard to get her into any routine or sleep pattern, but I am sure that everyone else they have caught up with was as glad to meet her as I was - what a gorgeous little girl :)

Day 223 - Hitting the Road

Well after a doctor's visit and a day at home for Henry, we waited for Jenna to finish school so that we could drive to Sydney in preparation for the course I had on the Friday. Henry travelled okay, slept a bit and was thankfully entertained by Jenna who almost came along as a last minute decision for the trip; I was so glad she did. It was great to have her entertain Henry and to chat with myself for the three hour drive. Nothing like a bit of word tennis to make the trip go faster!

Day 222 - Need a Remedy!

    • Belinda Moss Awww... no good... Henry has been coughing on and off for the last hour too :(
      10 August at 21:37 ·

    • Peta Kenningham That is no good ladies, let's just say I feel your pain.... just not right now. Try the onion method. Cut an onion in half and put it in their room, I swear it worked, either that or I was just so exhausted!
      10 August at 21:43 ·

    • Belinda Moss I would have thought an onion would cause more tears :P
      10 August at 21:45 ·

    • Peta Kenningham only for the chopper of the onion B. You just put it in their room, not in their bed! :p
      10 August at 21:47 ·

    • Belinda Moss I just did... now he is screaming :( not the effect I was hoping for!!!
      10 August at 21:54 ·

    • Peta Kenningham Poor Henry. :-( I hope he settles soon for you. Panadol and nurofen given?
      10 August at 22:03 ·

    • Belinda Moss He's ok :) it was brief... had panadol before bed, his temp is currently down and now he has an onion by his bed. Meanwhile I have a sore throat coming on... Sorry to hijack your status update Helen!
      10 August at 22:07 ·

    • Peta Kenningham Yes Sorry Helen! Just leaving some light reading for you! Always the way. Look after yourselves! Call if you need anything.

Day 221 - Census Night

I have to admit that I did get a little bit excited about filling in the census (online). As I have done a bit of family history research myself, it kind of fascinates me to think that in 100 years time the information that I submitted in this will be available to some future family researcher! So what will they find out? Well not much really... where we lived, what our jobs were, what religion we followed (or didn't) and how many hours of housework we do per week, apparently! I hope it is interesting reading...

Day 220 - Milly Needs a Makeover

Well Milly has finally been booked in for a visit to the "beauty parlour" and I have clipped out enough of her knots, so as to not be too embarrassed to take her there! Of course Rex has been booked in too, so that he doesn't have to sit home all forlorn waiting for his girl to come home!

Day 219 - Following in Dad's Footsteps

Henry has finally gotten used to the Cozy Coupe and appears to love his car (just like his Daddy). Although he doesn't realise that the fun part is supposed to be the driving around, he just loves getting in and closing the door. Then opening the door and getting out again. Then getting in and closing the door. Then opening the door and getting out again. I think you get the idea...

Day 218 - Shopping Bargains

As Dale was out for the day on his bike, Henry and I went into Civic and happened to come across some great baby clothing bargains. If only I could get clothes for myself at $2.87 a piece :)

Day 217 - Locked Out!

After we arrived home today I took Henry outside to play with his cozy coupe in the yard. I locked the front door behind me and grabbed my spare keys, not knowing that my spare house key wasn't on it at the time... Luckily I did have Henry's blanket in the car and when it finally got dark and Dale wasn't home, I decided to get to know the neighbours a little better and use their phone! Luckily Dale wasn't too far off and Henry wasn't grumpy despite it being dinner time :)

Day 216 - My Fortune Awaits

So apparently this is my fortune, according the Diamond Chinese at Karabah :P I didn't know that I was seeking enlightenment, but apparently someone wished that I would find it soon. All I did find after dinner was what I thought might be a reaction to MSG and the worst night's sleep in a long time. At least dinner and the company was good!

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

Day 215 - Happy Birthday Dale!

For the second year running, poor Dale has had his birthday overshadowed by a much shorter birthday boy and with their birthdays only a few days apart, I guess it is destined to happen. I really felt like we had had too much cake this week, so I went with the much healthier option of cheesecake which we shared after Dale got home from his class tonight. Happy Birthday Dale! xxx

Day 214 - Education Week, Open Classroom... Operation Clean Up Desk!

Spot the Difference! Well you can't have your desk area looking like the top picture if parents may be coming in! I swear my desk looks like this because I don't ever get to sit at it, and so it becomes a very handy large surface for dumping things on. Anyway I did my best possible clean up in 25 mins after a meeting this afternoon... now to keep it like this...

Monday, August 1, 2011

Day 213 - Coffee Cheesecake Slice

Well I have already eaten truckloads of cake this week... what's one more? Feeling decidedly unhealthy, but I was on Morning Tea Duty for Tuesday and I do love a baking opportunity... I think detox will be called for next week...
